The Sintef Headquarters in Oslo was built in the 1950’s and was in absolute need of refurbishing to display the Sintef motto of “Technology for a Better Community” and be turned into a modern workspace.

The project was supported by Enova to develop a façade system that was better than the Passive House standard with an UcW value of 0.4 W/m²K.

During the refurbishment, all personnel was to work inside the building and should not be disturbed. This was achieved by demounting the external Siporex cladding but leaving all the windows until the new façade was installed and weathertight.

The new façade with its high insulation and air permeability values combined with using the existing structure gave vast CO² reductions compared to making an entirely new build, plus the benefits of a shorter building time and the possibility to still use the buildings during the build.
